As a local Councillor at Adelaide Hills Council, I worked with and for residents to achieve:

Improved textile recycling - successfully passed a motion that begins the journey to having textile recycling pick up points available in our council area for textiles that are no use for donating to other projects.

Supported First Nations people's call to stop celebrations on 26 January - I introduced a motion to move celebrations away from 26 January in recognition of the difficulty of that day for First Nations People. There have been protests against celebrating on 26 January for over 80 years. The motion was successfully passed.

Build the Amy Gillett Bikeway to Birdwood - mobilised over 600 people to join together to push the State Government to provide funding. Council has now agreed to build it and has secured some State funding to ensure it gets done.

Established a trial for period products in council managed toilets - my motion to undertake a trial for free period products in Council managed toilets at our libraries to address period poverty The motion asked for consideration of partnerships with social enterprises.

Improved sustainability - my motion to reorient our procurement to align with the International Standard for Sustainable Procurement passed. Council have already made some big changes in the way we do our purchasing to be more sustainable ourselves and to ensure we are having a positive effect on our supply chain.

Green waste collection - the residents of Paracombe and Ironbank will now have green waste collection after my motion to include them was successfully passed.

Investigated bike lockers - successfully passed a motion to investigate installing bike lockers near public transport so people can ride to the bus and know that their bike will be safe.

Prioritised public & active transport - have successfully pushed to include this as a priority in all transport submissions we make to the State Government.

Established a place to find help - I worked with the administration to create a new page on Council's website to help people find the support they need when in financial or housing stress. The services all existed already, but there was no central place to find them all. This page is now live on our website.

Initiated a review into our Grants Program - It was becoming clear that our grants program was not always working for the community or our strategic objectives. Local community groups are doing the heavy-lifting in place-making but can't access tourism grants that go to private tourism operators. This is our chance to re-balance our grant program.

New signs for Mt Torrens - the old brown signs leading into Mt Torrens are past their use-by date. After the community asked if they could have the more up to date brown heritage signage, I successfully moved a motion to have them replaced. Mt Torrens is our only heritage listed town, and deserves recognition of it's value.

Initiatives I supported:

Towards net zero - supported our new strategy so Council can reduce our carbon emissions, and we have now included the community's emissions in our carbon accounting.

Reduced waste to landfill - supported a trial to change our waste collection to divert additional waste from landfill. The trial is now underway in some targeted areas.

Kept the library open for working people - amended the proposed revision to opening hours to ensure working people could still make use of the libraries at Woodside & Gumeracha.

Switched to 100% Green Power - Council now uses 100% Green Power and I worked with our Acting Mayor to move a motion to create a Virtual Power Plant in our area.

Secured a solution to stormwater issues  - advocated within Council to secure changes to a stormwater outlet that was causing erosion on residents' properties in Lobethal.

Introduced Natural Burials - supported the opening of a natural burial ground at Kersbrook Cemetery.

Supported resident-led campaigns including: opposing the relocation of the Stirling Community Hospital to Mt Barker, opposing the native vegetation clearance and poor access for the Mt Lofty Golf Course Development, preventing a 24-hour OTR at Heathfield, promoting Mt Torrens as a priority town for beautification, advocating to complete the undergrounding of the powerlines in Lobethal.

Supported animal welfare - supported a motion to investigate the effects of fireworks on domestic and native animals. Unfortunately the motion was lost without sufficient support in the chamber.

Brought communities together - supported a motion by Deputy Mayor Nathan Daniell to bring all the community groups from across the hills together. We held an event with the groups and it was a buzz of energy, information sharing and collaboration. We are all working to continue this group into the future.

Supported Council taking a leading role in the prevention of violence against women - supported a motion brought by Councillor Louise Pascale to implement the Our Watch toolkit which recognises Local Government's role in preventing domestic & family violence.

Supported looking into establishing a community bulk-buy for renewable energy & a virtual power plant  - Cr Nathan Daniell moved a motion to investigate Adelaide Hills Council undertaking a similar program to that of Mitcham City Council's program.

Supported a tree strategy - Cr Nathan Daniell moved a motion to establish a tree strategy to protect and improve our tree canopy in the hills.

And finally something I'm proud of:

When I was elected Deputy Mayor, it was the first time that Adelaide Hills Council has had both leadership positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor held by women.
